Portland Ovations is proud to present the Vancouver Chamber Choir at Merrill Auditorium for an afternoon concert Sunday, March 4th at 3pm.
Canada's foremost vocal ensemble for more than 40 years, the Vancouver Chamber Choir is internationally renowned for the depth and range of its repertoire, interpretive skills, and performing excellence. The twenty singers of the Vancouver Chamber Choir perform frequently with distinguished artists and ensembles such as Chanticleer, Moscow Chamber Choirs, Paco Peña, Canadian Brass, the Turtle Island String Quartet and others. Conductor John Washburn is noted for crafting innovative and fascinating programs that unearth hidden choral treasures and it is his innovative and entrepreneurial spirit that gained the Choir the prestigious Louis Botto award in 2000. Their concerts encompass a wide range of music from chant to folksong, traditional to contemporary and a cappella to jazz.
The program for their Merrill Auditorium performance features works by, Thomas Weelkes, Andrea Gabrieli, Johan Sebastian Bach, Robert Ingari, and Electo Silva amongst others.
Ovations Offstage offers a pre-performance lecture, "Considering Choral Arts" at 2pm in the Rehearsal Hall at Merrill Auditorium with Bob Russell, Music Director of the Choral Arts Society. The discussion will focus on the expressive values inherent in Renaissance music and music of the modern era. The USM Chamber Singers will join Russell and help bring his ideas to life.
Tickets for the Vancouver Chamber Choir are $34 for Ovations' Members, $38 for the general public and a limited amount of $10 student tickets are also available.
