Following a successful winter tour of the Northeast and a fall residency at Joe's Pub in NYC, the critically acclaimed, seven-member indie-folk band/theater troupe PigPen Theatre Co. will embark on a tour of headline and festival dates this summer. The group's debut album Bremen is out now, and in celebration of the tour they will record a five-song EP to be released in conjunction with the August 2 Bowery Ballroom show. In between tour dates the guys will spend a week in June in residence at The Orchard Project developing a new full-length theater piece, The Hunter & The Bear, and will also be in residence at the Williamstown Theatre Festival July 8-20 to begin work on the Chicago production of their recent Off-Broadway hit The Old Man and the Old Moon.
The guys of PigPen Theatre Co. began creating their unique brand of music, film and theater as students at Carnegie Mellon University in 2008. They went on to become the first group to win top honors at the New York International Fringe Festival two years in a row (2010 and 2011), and their first evening-length Off-Broadway production The Old Man and the Old Moon ran from September 2012-January 2013 at The Gym at Judson (located in the iconic Judson Memorial Church), playing more than 100 performances. The Old Man and the Old Moon will have its Chicago debut this fall in a new production at Writer's Theatre, September 3-November 10.
PigPen Theatre Co. has performed at New York's famous Barrow Street Theatre, the Boston Center for the Arts and The Irondale Center in Brooklyn, and has sold out theaters nationwide with its shows The Nightmare Story,The Mountain Song and The Old Man and the Old Moon. Their work has earned them critics' picks from The New York Times, Time Out New York, New York Magazine and The Huffington Post, among others, with reviewers ranking their productions among the top ten theatrical events of both 2011 and 2012. The group recently gave a TED Talk on storytelling, which can be viewed/shared at http://youtu.be/mV5ZY-eAU9I.
