Last Thursday, the iconic Marie Osmond celebrated her new album "Music Is Medicine," which was officially released on April 15, with an elegant, but high-energy reception hosted by Nutrisystem at Aretsky's Patroon in New York City. Scroll down for photos from the event!
Marie's last album came out 5 years ago. Here is Marie's take on why she decided to release another album now and how she believes age shouldn't define music.
"I had decided not to record anymore. But you know how as women, we get this gut feeling and it just kept going and going and finally, this producer friend of mine came to the show and he goes 'You've got to sing. Your voice is so contemporary.' and I said , 'You know, everything just keeps lining up.' Then, another friend sent me a fantastic song."
"I don't think age should define our music. And you know, the people that grew up with me, I think they can relate to what my songs say. The young people are also loving the music. It's so exciting. If music comes from the heart, it should be for everybody and there is a song on this album for everybody."
Collaborations on Marie's album include Olivia Newtown John, John Rich of Big & Rich and the unlikely R&B artist known for the "Thong Song," SisQo. Here's how that collaboration came together.
"You know, I remember when music was just made in one big room. When I was recording, SisQo was actually right next door in another place recording. I was with my producer and I said 'This rap piece right here, I wish we had somebody who could do it.' And an engineer goes, 'Well, SisQo is next door.' and I said, 'Well let's go ask him.' And god bless him. He said it sounded fun. And he came over and it was music. He was in there just going with it, it was awesome."
"Thank you Nutrisystem for hosting such a fun album launch party last night at Aretsky's Patroon. I feel like this is the best time of my life. The secret to looking and feeling great is doing what you love. Thank you to my family and friends for making this all so special."
