USA Today reports that a statue honoring late singer Amy Winehouse was unveiled in London's Camden's Stables Market on Sunday, the day that would have been the artist's 31st birthday.
"It's a day of incredibly mixed emotions," said Amy's dad, Mitch Winehouse. According to the report, the proud father kissed the statue's cheek and shared, "They don't put statues up for people who are with us anymore, so it reinforces the fact that physically she's gone, but spiritually she'll never leave us."
Mitch, who took part in the plans for the memorial told the crowd, "Getting people to come here, spend some time with Amy and put a flower in her hair and remember her in a very positive way. That, for me, is wonderful."
Added Winehouse's mother Janis, "It's just a wow, a definite wow."
