Until The Ribbon Breaks was always supposed to be more than just a band. Inspired by the marriage of image and sound, Winfield's personal endeavor has always been to create a world within a world of texture and layering, using a hybrid of media to create something ethereal and intangible.
This first collection of his works in the format of a beautiful 8x10 hardback book will be an insight into his process and form, image and feeling, with an exclusive collection of photography, poetry, artwork, and lyrics.
To create it, Winfield put each element through both a digital and human process, capturing some of its content by hand, some by machine, but all manipulated until it was hard to determine how each came to be. "A loop within a loop within a loop" is how Winfield describes the creative process, which he has documented on Vero.
The title of the book is shared with what is perhaps Winfield's most personal and honest song to date - 'Meru'. Named after a 22,000ft mountain peak in the Himalayas where some of the book was made, the summit is considered one of the hardest in the world to climb, made up of a series of unrelenting jagged edges at sub-zero temperatures. Its reputation runs parallel with Winfield's personal journey over the last ten years in which he has battled to overcome seemingly insurmountable hurdles - mountains himself; alcoholism, drug addiction, and anxiety.
He talks openly about his journey to recovery in a 'Statement of Intent' he released with Until The Ribbon Breaks' sophomore record earlier this year. (Read here//Listen here) It also sits at the heart of this book, both literally in the middle pages and metaphorically - its creation helping him on his journey to recovery.
"Everywhere he goes, in everything he creates - be it photographs, music, words, film - he betrays a life-long fascination with the mysteries and darkness of the human soul. What lurks in the shadows and what finds its way into the light, suddenly and startlingly." - Katie Jane Winfield
"Without the support of Ayman and his team at Vero, this collection of work would not be possible," said Winfield. "Forever sourcing, cultivating, and mining creativity for every drop, the work that they are doing is inspiring, incredible, and much needed in a time when art can and should speak louder than ever."
