Parcels just released their latest cinematic visual from their widely acclaimed self-titled debut album (Kitsuné / Because Music / Caroline), as they get set to make their Coachella debut this Saturday, April 13 and continue their headline shows throughout North America. The five young Berlin-based Australian musicians shared "Tape" today, filmed amongst their fans at Chicago's Lincoln Hall during their sold out winter North American tour and captures the energy of their live show. The video also features the reveal of "Penelope," the enigmatic presence who is weaved throughout their album campaign including the Parcels album cover. Watch "Tape," directed by the band's creative director Carmen Crommelin, here!
With the "Tape" video, the band note: "We wanted a video that tapped into the energy we feel at a live concert. It's another world than the record, it's a whole different feeling and we wanted to give a taste of that." They add, "That's why we filmed the live scene in a one-take live scenario, from our on-stage perspective, with real fans at the show! We came on stage as an encore that night and we explained to the crowd that we wanted to capture something different with cameras. It was nerve wracking and we totally threw the crowd into the deep end. But it was a good surprise, everyone reacted with a smile, it was a real buzz. Thanks a million to everyone who was at that concert!"
Parcels follow an eclectic thread from The Beach Boys and Chic through to heroes like Steely Dan, all the while blending elements of electronica, funk and tirelessly-drilled live musicianship into classic but contemporary pop. The group also has a maniacal taste for perfection when it comes to production, composition and arrangement, with a live show so accomplished that Daft Punk offered to work with them on the spot--the first time the legendary duo have chosen an emerging act to add to their list of collaborators.
The twelve tracks on Parcels were self-produced and written by the band in Berlin. the album was released to a torrent of unanimous praise, surpassing 75 million streams globally to-date--including over 8 million views of their gorgeous, cinematic music videos--and, over the past year, have gone on a monumental global headline tour including festival and sold out dates throughout Europe, Australia, Japan, and North & South America.
