Featuring Jim James, bell hooks, Rachel Grimes, Wendell Berry, Joan Shelley and many more wonderful Kentucky artists, with proceeds benefiting the Kentucky Natural Lands Trust & Pine Mountain Settlement School.
In a few recording sessions scattered across the winter & spring of 2017 & 2018, musicians and writers from all across Kentucky gathered on the slopes of Pine Mountain at a near-century-old chapel to make new recordings of their work, with nearly all of the songs & poems being previously unreleased. The rich, reverberant sound of the chapel at Pine Mountain Settlement School binds these never-before-heard recordings together, and is the atmosphere that inspired the beautiful and candid performances.
The artists came together because of their shared belief in the mission of the Kentucky Natural Lands Trust, a group working to protect, connect, and restore wildlands. Their work on the Pine Mountain Wildlands Corridor is the largest conservation effort in Kentucky's history and is nothing short of essential. The Goal: link together protected lands to form a 125 mile uninterrupted stretch of forest spanning the entire ridge of the mountain, from Tennessee through Kentucky to Virginia.
