The Utah Symphony visits Thanksgiving Point tonight, July 1st at 8:30 p.m. to jumpstart your 4th of July with performances of patriotic pop favorites under the direction of Principal Pops Conductor Jerry Steichen and vocalists Elizabeth Southard and Gary Mauer, previously seen on Broadway and in the National Tour of "The Phantom of the Opera." Tickets start at $20 and can be purchased by visiting thanksgivingpoint.org/events/utahsymphony.
This concert will feature highlights from beloved classics such as "Anything You Can Do" from "Annie Get Your Gun," "Seventy Six Trombones" from "The Music Man," and orchestra selections from Rodgers and Hammerstein's "The Sound of Music" and "South Pacific." Alongside these theater classics, patriotic favorites will include "American Salute" and "Stars and Stripes Forever."
Husband and wife vocalist duo Elizabeth Southard and Gary Mauer performed together on Broadway and in the National Tour of "The Phantom of the Opera," and shared the stage again in director Harold Prince's revival of "Showboat." Ms. Southard has been a featured performer with orchestras throughout the United States, and Mr. Mauer has been a featured soloist worldwide, including a world tour of "The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber."
Jerry Steichen has led the orchestra as Principal Pops Conductor since the 2009-10 Season. Prior to becoming Principal Pops Conductor, Mr. Steichen frequently appeared with Utah Symphony and guest conducted at the Deer Valley Music Festival every year since the festival's inception in 2003. He has also been a frequent conductor with Utah Opera.
Utah Symphony's Summer Community Concert Series began with two free concerts at the Gallivan Center and Taylorsville Dayzz, followed by a concert at Sundance Resort, and will travel on to perform at Snowbasin Resort (July 3). The six-concert series concludes with an outdoor performance featuring string trio Time for Three at Red Butte Garden on August 13, The collaboration with Red Butte Garden will be the first of many community arts collaborations that are part of the Utah Symphony's 75th anniversary season, which officially launches in September 2015.
Approximate performance time is 2 hours with one 20 minute intermission. The performance will take place rain or shine.

Thanksgiving Point Gardens will close to the public at 5:30 p.m. Gates to the performance open at 6:30 p.m. to the public. Arrive early for best seating options as the venue fills up quickly for most performances. Blankets and low beach chairs are permitted. Please be courteous of others. There are designated areas for wheelchair seating. Free parking is available at the venue. Carpooling is strongly recommended to help alleviate traffic congestion.
Driving Directions: Take I-15 north. Take exit 284 (Alpine/Highland). Proceed west on Clubhouse Drive to the light at Ashton Blvd. Proceed straight through the light at Ashton Blvd and cross the bridge. At the four-way stop take an immediate right onto Garden Drive.
