PALENKE SOULTRIBE excitingly mix up musical styles with the release of their full-length album MAR, out this Tuesday, April 9 on their own Soultribe Records. This album marks the duo's first new music since 2009's critically acclaimed Oro.

For MAR, the Colombian-born, Los Angeles-based duo--JUAN DIEGO BORDA (Vocals, Sequencer, Bass) and ANDRES "POPA" ERAZO (Vocals, Synths, Gaita)--offer a refreshingly unique sound fashioned for dance floors all over the globe: a dubby, dancefloor-friendly hybrid of electronic beats and Colombian styles -especially cumbia. The album's first single "Move It" is an experiment with faster acid African-kuduro tempos and features L.A.-based singer Naada. Listen to the song now here: https://soundcloud.com/palenke-soultribe/10-move-it-feat-naada. A music video for "Move It" was recently shot and will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

In addition to the entirely original material on MAR, PALENKE SOULTRIBE also pay homage to those iconic Columbian artists that have come before them. The duo took classic tracks from Colombia's legendary Palenque Records label and layered new sounds over the original recordings to create a 21st century mash-up of yesterday's funky Afro-Colombian beats and today's EDM stylings.

For their version of "Oh Mama!," originally written by Enrique Martinez, the group updated the lyrics with contemporary audiences in mind, portraying a guy who asks his lover questions--"Why are you acting strange? Are you mad at me?"--but never gets a reply. "Africa is the Mother of the Beat" samples "Apila el Arroz," a funky groover from the group Son Palenque. PALENKE SOULTRIBE invited Ghanaian rapper Scrip to spit some rhymes celebrating the African origins of the music that the band loves.

To celebrate the release of their new LP, PALENKE SOULTRIBE recently completed a small U.S. tour. The response was positive with sold-out shows in Miami and Washington, D.C. The group is now gearing up for a special CD release party on Thursday, April 11 at Los Globos in Los Angeles where JUAN and POPA will be joined onstage with a full ensemble Latin band, including a few very special guests. The two will continue promoting the new music here in the States before jetting off to Europe for a run of shows there. Full tour itinerary is below.

PALENKE SOULTRIBE is also asking all the Palenkeros (their fans) around the world to be a part of another upcoming music video for "La Gozadera," another track off MAR. "La Gozadera" means sheer pleasure; absolute joy or ecstasy. It's a Latin term which describes the feeling PALENKE SOULTRIBE strives to inspire in their fans through their music. JUAN and POPA are asking fans to send in a short video of them dancing, singing, laughing, having fun with the song. Submissions emailed to soylagozadera@gmail.com will be edited into a music video for "La Gozadera."
