Osmunda Music announced the release of Munda, a collection of 11 songs created by Osmunda Music, a.k.a. Rebecca Trujillo Vest-an artist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and music producer whose layered compositions achieve a lyrical, harmonic balance infused with a moving message of global positive change.
The album-its messages perfectly attuned to this week's Earth Day celebrations-features Trujillo Vest and longtime producer John X Volaitis. Munda is a rhythmically stirring collection of songs created to move listeners to celebrate their differences and commonalities while bringing them together to achieve collaborative understanding. Guest artists on the project include Andrea Bulletti, Reeves Gabrels, Jill Guido, Rachael Lesner, Osher Levi, Greg McMullen, Donnacha Tierney, Michael Vest, and Astrid Young.
"Releasing this music is meant as both activism and creative inspiration, and I hope listeners will respond to it in that way," said Trujillo Vest.
Inspiration for the album Munda came about during her travels for over a year with her Martin Backpacker guitar through Europe, Israel, and India. By reaching even further into a creative extension of herself, she wrote and performed with a variety of musicians.
"I felt like a part of me was born, a part that I'd like to share with the world," the artist said. "I feel that now more than ever the world needs music to build bridges-not walls."
The collection offers inspiring, expressive journeys for listeners, including the title song "Munda," the entrancing "Eternal Wheel," the dream-like "Floating on a Wave," and the mystical "All the Answers," among others.
Both a feminist and an optimist, Rebecca draws inspiration from the beauty of the natural world, weaving sublime melodies into high vibrational lyrics that create positive messages ready to be seeded into humanity. She is a courageous troubadour who would like to focus attention on critical issues such as global warming, homelessness, and hunger while forging pathways to change.
Rebecca and her husband Michael Vest founded the band Space Babies. They recruited John X Volaitis to help produce their studio albums and enlisted Farmer Dave Scher to join them, performing on Space Babies (2009), Spaceport (2018), and The Space Babies Show: A Song in a Day (2018) and numerous singles. She starred in Earthstar Continuum, a sci-fi/comedy musical web series. She also starred in Monkey Flower, a sci-fi/comedy set in Venice beach, and appears as a guest vocalist on Earth Water Air Fire - Chants to Inspire Devotional Singing. In 2010, Rebecca and Michael opened Earthstar Creation Center, a recording studio in Venice, California. Together they have co-produced many projects from this magical, creative space.
Rebecca is also the board chairwoman and executive music producer for the Mar Vista Art Walk.
