When actor William Shatner jokes about the ghosts of Merle Haggard and Glen Campbell in a new video profile produced by Opry Entertainment
Productions, he does so respectfully.
Shatner's "My Opry Debut" was filmed on the day of his Grand Ole Opry debut with Jeff
Cook of Alabama, on February 15. "I love country music; I've loved it for a long time," Shatner says, in the video. "Here I am, amongst the cream of the crop." See the video here!
Shatner and Cook performed on the Opry show to promote their country album "Why
Not Me." Both stars were interviewed backstage, with Cook explaining how their
unusual collaboration came about.
"We have a mutual friend who happens to be in the record business," he says, referring
to Brian Curl, president of Heartland Records Nashville. When Shatner took the iconic stage, he seemed genuinely starstruck.
"Hello, Grand Ole Opry! I'm so glad to be here," he says.
"My Opry Debut" is a video series featuring musical artists, the first time they performed on the Grand Ole Opry. Previous artists in the series have included Tenille Townes, Dillon Carmichael, Abby Anderson, Tegan Marie, Travis Denning, Ashley McBride and more.
