Electro-pop singer-songwriter & producer extraordinaire Nanna Øland Fabricius, better known as Oh Land, has released her fourth studio album, Earth Sick, today via her own independent imprint, Tusk or Tooth, in collaboration with Kobalt Label Services! For a taste of what to expect from the album, listeners were previously treated to Earth Sick first single "Head Up High" (and its striking accompanying video) as well as the album title track. Immersed in her signature soundscape of lush vocals, rich string arrangements & infectious melodies, Earth Sick is a hybrid of masterfully woven symphonic & electronic sounds, and marks a full-circle return to the artist's bedroom production style.
As Nanna herself elaborates to
Billboard, "I'm super excited to release my album 'Earth Sick' into the world. I recorded it in my home in Brooklyn using sound samples from my everyday life mixed with string quartet recordings I did with my family in Copenhagen. The album is themed around the feeling of longing. Longing to fulfill your dreams, longing for your love on a long distance call. For your everyday actions to make sense, and longing to feel at home. I imagine an astronaut would feel some sort of longing when he looks back at Earth from space. I imagine that he would wanna change some things when he returns. I imagine a kind of idealism. The irony is, that astronauts often get "earth sick" when they return to earth. Their bodies simply have to adjust to gravity again and they have to slowly get used to being
Earthlings? again. With this album I look at my own little world from my own little space and imagine what I would change..."
Oh Land began her career rather unconventionally following a ten-year budding career in ballet, which was ended abruptly by an injury. Searching for a new way to incorporate music into her life, she began recording in her bedroom and discovered an early knack for production. In 2008, she released her debut album Fauna to much critical acclaim, and has spent the better part of the past four years supporting her following releases,
Oh Land & Wish Bone, and supporting artists including
Katy Perry & Sia on the road.
