Oh Land Releases First Single 'Human Error' Off Upcoming Studio Album

Oh Land - the stage name of Danish composer Nanna Øland Fabricius - has released a new song today, "Human Error". Produced by Thomas Bartlett (St. Vincent, Florence & the Machine, The National), the song is the first single from Oh Land's new studio album, Family Tree, coming May 3.

Unlike Oh Land's earlier work, Family Tree is a deeply intimate album. "Since the release of my latest album, I've experienced the biggest ups and downs of my private life," notes Nanna, who had a baby, moved back to Denmark after living in NYC for ten years, and got a divorce all in the span of 18 months. "Everything I'd been working on musically suddenly seemed unimportant and irrelevant to the new life I had to slowly piece together. So I ditched all the songs and recordings I had done and started writing from the uncertainty of where I was.

"Music has, for me, always been the friend who listens and never judges," she continues. "As I have often found it, music is the best listener when you pour your heart out. In melody and music I've found some healing and the songs that have come out of it are deeply personal. I never planned to make this album, and yet the songs I've written couldn't have been anything other than what's here."

Nanna was thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Thomas Bartlett on production, who brought the perfect touch to these very personal songs. "I've gone back to the piano as the bones of my songwriting for this project," she notes. "Working with Thomas allowed me to create an album that's more organic, and more cinematic, than anything I've ever done before."

Oh Land also composes music for film, theater and the classical music world. She has performed with Lang Lang and Joshua Bell at Carnegie Hall in New York City, and orchestrated concerts for the Danish Symphony Orchestra in her native country of Denmark. She collaborated with the Queen of Denmark to create a ballet for the Danish Theatre (2016); created the music for Watermusic, a multimedia performance for over 15,000 people at Randers Harbor combining architecture, dance and music (2017), as well as creating the musical score for the exhibition "The Ship" at Nikolaj Kunsthal in collaboration with Eske Kath. Most recently she reimagined the Danish National Anthem as a dark, dystopian theme song for the new Netflix sci-fi hit "The Rain".
