Rising Australian project No Mono debuts two live performance videos, re-interpreting their songs, "Butterflies" and "Violence Broken"-watch and share. The performances were shot at Pieater HQ BellBird in Collingwood, Melbourne. The Pieater family and friends recorded the live performances from every corner of the room to capture footage that is wholly intimate, raw and personal. All of the footage was compiled and edited to create a documentation of documentation.
Of the performances, Tom Fraser of Pieater says, "We were unsure how the evening would pan out, but it worked better than we could have possibly hoped. The guests took on their co-directing roles with so much passion and concentration. I totally get that people feel filming at a gig ruins the experience, however in this setting it only enhanced it-you felt comfortable to film, could shoot from anywhere and it felt like 'We're all in this together to achieve something' which created a great connection between the audience and artists. Then each person got to go home with their own filmed memento of the performance. We're keen to do it again with more artists and guests to share the experience."
"Butterflies," No Mono's debut single, premiered on triple j in
September and peaked at #2 on Spotify Australia's Viral Chart. Their second track, "Violence Broken," was released shortly after and peaked at #5 on the same chart.
No Mono is the special collaboration between two of Australia's most revered artists-the Alice Springs-raised Tom Snowdon and Tom Iansek. The pairing began in 2014, when a connection was sparked by the now-hibernated #1 Dads project, which bore witness to two collaborations between Snowdon and Iansek: "Return To" and a cover of FKA Twigs' "Two Weeks." The songs left a lasting impression on Snowdon and Iansek, and it's taken until now for new music to surface in what is a collaboration of the minds. Further music is set to be released from No Mono later this year.
