New York Composer, Producer Emily Wells' New Album Out Today, Touring West Coast in April Image

New York composer, producer and singer Emily Wells' new album This World Is Too ____ For You is out today on her label Thesis & Instinct-listen here and purchase here. The album is featured today on NPR's New Music Friday where they praise it as, "mind-blowing" and "genre-bending"-listen here.

The new album is a scoring of the current climate crisis and exploration of the human interaction with the natural world, written from her queer perspective underscoring the eco-feminist link between social and environmental transgressions. Produced and written by Wells, the record began as a commission of new works from the renowned Liquid Music Series (Philip Glass, Bon Iver, Blood Orange) and also features New York's Grammy nominated chamber orchestra Metropolis Ensemble and drummer Shayna Dunkleman (Xiu Xiu, Peptalk). Additionally, the album was arranged for chamber ensemble by composer Michi Wiancko.

Previously released album tracks include "Stay Up" and a video for "Come On Doom, Let's Party," the latter of which finds Wells taking inspiration from the activists of ACT UP, the organization formed to fight AIDS at the height of the crisis in New York.

Emily Wells is a multi-instrumentalist, classically trained violinist, composer and producer. Wells blends classical and modern instrumentation and often samples live to create "dramatic, meticulous and gothic songs" (New York Times) that blend "traditionalism with electronic ambiance" (NPR). On stage, Wells' evocative solo performances leave audiences equal parts dancing and grieving, as she builds new instruments out of acoustic and electronic drums, synth and violin. Her newest work,This World Is Too ____ For You is Wells' fifth full-length album and third for her own label Thesis & Instinct.
