New York Composer Emily Wells Debuts Video For COME ON DOOM, LET'S PARTY, New Album Out This Friday Image

New York composer, producer and singer Emily Wells unveils her video for "Come On Doom, Let's Party" today-watch here. For the video Wells inserts herself into found video of climate crisis, dance and archival protest footage from ACT UP, the organization formed to fight AIDS at the height of the crisis in New York.

Of the video Wells explains, "I am interested in the relationship between the history of the AIDS crisis and our current climate crisis and what "silence = death" means in this context. I wish to learn from the activists of ACT UP, the way they took science and knowledge in hand and produced clear solutions that were implemented on a federal level and the way their actions of protest often had a sense of humor, were alive with creativity yet were simultaneously gravely profound."

"Come On Doom, Let's Party" is taken from Wells' forthcoming album, This World Is Too ____ For You, due this Friday March 22 on her label Thesis & Instinct--pre-order the album here.

This World Is Too ____ For You features ten songs that began as a commission of new works from the renowned Liquid Music Series (Philip Glass, Bon Iver, Blood Orange). Produced and written by Wells, the record features New York's Grammy nominated chamber orchestra Metropolis Ensemble and drummer Shayna Dunkleman. Additionally, the album was arranged for chamber ensemble by composer Michi Wiancko.

Thematically, the album finds Wells exploring the human interaction with the natural world, the rub between desire for and desire to strip oneself of all wanting. Often writing in major keys for a playful juxtaposition to the heavy material, Wells scores the dystopia from a queer perspective. Check out previously released album single "Stay Up" here.

Emily Wells is a multi-instrumentalist, classically trained violinist, composer and producer. Wells blends classical and modern instrumentation and often samples live to create "dramatic, meticulous and gothic songs" (New York Times) that blend "traditionalism with electronic ambiance" (NPR). On stage, Wells' evocative solo performances leave audiences equal parts dancing and grieving, as she builds new instruments out of acoustic and electronic drums, synth and violin. Her newest work,This World Is Too ____ For You is Wells' fifth full-length album and third for her own label Thesis & Instinct.
