With only one week remaining until the release of the new Primus album The Desaturating Seven, Les Claypool's alter ego Christopher P. Bacon will be reading excerpts from the rainbow goblin-filled children's book that inspired the record and revealing one song each day at Noon EST until the album's release on Friday, September 29.
Each clip will be hosted by Primus's YouTube HERE; watch Part 1 and listen to Track 1 - "The Valley" - HERE.
"We started reading [The Rainbow Goblins] to my children when they were very young," Claypool explained. "It became a bedtime story favorite. It always came across a bit frightening, like an old Grimm's fairy tale-a little dark and creepy, which seemed very much up my strasse."
Claypool was equally inspired by the paintings in The Rainbow Goblins. "The artwork is just amazing," he says. "There's a beauty but also a dark eeriness for this compelling, sinister story. The paintings are incredible, vibrant, unique looking-it's a good contrast between dark and light visually and also metaphorically. And there's always been a strong visual element to Primus."
The Desaturating Seven is the first studio album of original material since 1995's Tales From The Punchbowl with the classic Primus line-up of Les Claypool (vocals, bass), Larry LaLonde (guitar) and Tim Alexander (drums).
The art of The Rainbow Goblins also crosses over into the cover image and packaging of the new album with a vinyl pressing featuring clear vinyl with a rainbow splatter. All of those who pre-order before September 29 are automatically eligible to receive a Goblin in your copy of The Desaturating Seven; If you find the yellow goblin, you will receive one poster from EVERY show of the Fall 2017 Ambushing the Storm Tour, and a pair of tickets to any of the shows you can attend on the same tour.
