Live For Live Music's The Funk Sessions is headed to New Orleans! The monthly residency, which typically takes place at Cervantes' Other Side in Denver, CO, will make its way to Frenchmen Street for a special edition of the event during the daze between Jazz Fest weekends. This version of The Funk Sessions will feature members of Turkuaz, Dumpstaphunk, The Motet, Thievery Corporation, and Electric Beethoven, and will take place at The Maison on Tuesday, April 30th. Up-and-coming local favorites The Iceman Special will open up the night.

Following a masterful edition of the series in March, drummer Michelangelo Carubba (Turkuaz) will reprise his role as musical director for the New Orleans session. At Carubba's March edition of the funky series in Denver, the drummer orchestrated mixed in songs by James Brown, Funkadelic, Earth Wind & Fire, Tower of Power, Al Green and more while bringing out the best in the musicians talented around him. Carubba will once again be joined at The Funk Sessions by Lyle Divinsky (The Motet), Ryan Jalbert (The Motet), Todd Stoops (Electric Beethoven), and Jeff Franca (Thievery Corporation).

Tony Hall, bassist for NOLA stalwarts Dumpstaphunk, will also add his immense talents when The Funk Sessions hits New Orleans. His deep-rooted knowledge and appreciation for funk music are well-documented, and his addition to The Funk Sessions will only elevate this band to new heights. The band will be rounded out by the three-headed beast that is the Turkuaz Horns: Josh Schwartz, Greg Sanderson, and Chris Brouwers.

Opening act The Iceman Special takes audiences deep into the swamps of Louisiana. Their sound is a mixture of psychedelic rock, along with elements of reggae, funk, prog, and more. They are an excellent live band that is notorious for putting on intense, daring performances.
