Local entertainer Jay White will pay tribute to Neil Diamond in a tribute performance at the Suncoast Showroom on June 7.
Introduced to the stage in Detroit as part of a Doo-Wop group, Top 40 band, and as part of numerous musical theater companies, White gained an appreciation for Neil Diamond's tracks. He later dedicated himself to paying tribute to the renowned artist, making his every movement and note embody the passion and the power of "America's Classiest Rock Star".
Performing as the "Sweet Caroline" singer since his first professional gig in 1982, White's physical and vocal embodiment of Diamond landed him a nearly nine-year stint in "Legends in Concert" on the Las Vegas Strip. White followed with an eight-year run of 2,000 shows, performing in a solo Las Vegas Strip show as Diamond.
An accomplished performer, White has appeared in theaters, casinos and hotels worldwide. White had the honor to perform for President Reagan and the first lady, has performed the National Anthem at dozens of high profile sporting events, and appeared on a bill along with Bob Hope for the American Legion.
In addition to his ventures on stage, White is a talented hockey player. Beginning with his professional tryout with the IHL Kalamazoo Wings in the '70s, as well as his Olympic tryout in 1980, White continues to sustain his conditioning for both the ice and the stage. He is currently the emergency backup and practice goalie for the Las Vegas Wranglers.
Showtime for the evening is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available from $15.95, plus tax and fees. Tickets can be purchased at any Boyd Gaming box office, by calling 702.636.7075, or visiting www.suncoastcasino.com.
