Neil Diamond To Receive Highest Honor At Songwriters Hall of Fame  Image

According to Billboard, Neil Diamond is set to receive the Johnny Mercer Award at this summer's Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony. Some popular titles Diamond has written include I'M A BELIEVER, RED RED WINE, SWEET CAROLINE and YOU DON'T BRING ME FLOWERS ANYMORE. Throughout an illustrious and wide-ranging musical career, Neil Diamond has sold more than 130 million albums worldwide and has dominated the charts for more than five decades with 38 Top 40 singles and 16 Top 10 albums. Before becoming one of the most noted and successful recording artists in the world, Diamond's early recognition came as a songwriter. His recorded songs have become a part of the fabric of America's songbook with a wide range of international hits that include "Solitary Man," "Cherry, Cherry," "Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon," "I'm A Believer," "Red Red Wine," "Holly Holy," "Thank The Lord For The Night Time," "Sweet Caroline," "Kentucky Woman," "Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show," "Cracklin' Rosie," "I Am...I Said," "Song Sung Blue," "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" (with Barbra Streisand), "September Morn," and "Heartlight," among many others. Diamond has won a GRAMMY Award, a Golden Globe Award, the Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award, and a Kennedy Center Honor, and has been inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriter's Hall Of Fame. In 2009, he was honored as MusiCares® Person Of The Year.

The Songwriters Hall of Fame also recently announced that singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles is the 2018 recipient for The Songwriters Hall of Fame's 2018 Hal David Starlight Award. This award is awarded to "gifted young songwriters who are making a significant impact in the music industry via their original songs,", says the official press release announcement.

This years Hall of Fame inductees include Robert "Kool" Bell, Bill Anderson, Ronald Bell, Jermaine Dupri, John Mellencamp, George Brown and James "JT" Taylor, Stephen Dorff, Alan Jackson and Allee Willis.

The Songwriters Hall of Fame celebrates songwriters, educates the public with regard to their achievements, and produces a spectrum of professional programs devoted to the development of new songwriting talent through workshops, showcases and scholarships. Out of the tens of thousands of songwriters of our era, there are approximately 400 inductees who make up the impressive roster enshrined in the Hall of Fame. The list includes Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil, Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller, Eddie Holland, Lamont Dozier & Brian Holland, Smokey Robinson, Albert Hammond, Desmond Child, Paul Williams, Hal David & Burt Bacharach, John Fogerty, Bob Dylan, Isaac Hayes& David Porter, Richard & Robert Sherman, Carole King, Gerry Goffin, Paul Simon, Billy Joel, Jon Bon Jovi & Richie Sambora, Sir Elton John & Bernie Taupin, Brian Wilson, James Taylor, Don Schlitz, Bruce Springsteen, Phil Collins, Alan & Marilyn Bergman, Loretta Lynn, Jimmy Webb, Van Morrison, Kris Kristofferson, Dolly Parton, Diane Warren, Paul Anka, Stevie Wonder, Bob Seger, Steven Tyler & Joe Perry and Leonard Cohen among many others.
