Listen To "Secret Owner Of All Gold"
Metal Injection says 'Secret Owner Of All Gold' "covers everything from eerie atmospheres to massive, chunky riffs underlying earworm vocals, making for one hell of a package."
In the summer of 2016 Ben Stoller (of Hot Victory) moved into Dan O'Hara's (Humours, ex-IX) North Portland house where they casually worked on a very long and spastic piece of music with way too many parts and way too much ambition. Synchronistically Kirk Evans (ex-Sioux/Lord Dying) asked Ben and Dan individually to start a new project. They toyed with heavy, and often very mathy ideas, and stumbled upon a few arrangements that would benefit from vocals. They convinced Natalie Lucio (ex-Poison Idea/Cliterati, Vueltas) to utilize her melodic sensibilities, born from 70's and 80's pop and new wave, to distill and round the edges of their jagged sound. The result is Dark Numbers, a collection of music driven by its melody and indulgent in its girth, often opposing factors when forged and rarely settled upon when sought. Their collaborative process is attenuated towards the spacey-ness of complexity, the heady-ness of form and the introspection of self.
All songs except "The Mariner" were recorded by Fester with the assistance of Andrew Grosse at Caravan Recordings. If It Was It Would Be So was mixed by Fester in his Hypercube, and mastered by Stephan Hawkes at Interlace Audio. Dark Numbers will celebrate their debut LP with a release show on May 24th at Tonic Lounge in the band's hometown of Portland ORE.
