Fronted by honorary Seattle cultural mayor John Roderick, and largely defined by his extraordinary songs that bring hooks and deft lyrical twists in equal measure, Roderick and his band have become an institution in the Pacific Northwest and around the world among fans of smart songwriting. (As Roderick says, "I like chairs that don't creak and songs that don't suck.") The band (playing When I Pretend To Fall in its entirety) and label join together with other members of the fantastic Barsuk roster (including a very rare performance by Chris Walla, the Seattle debut of new Barsuk signing Minor Alps, and more) at Neptune Theater onNovember 8th as part of a four-night anniversary celebration that continues through the weekend at venues around Seattle.

2013 marks the fifteenth anniversary of the founding of Seattle independent record label Barsuk Records, and the tenth year since its release of Jesse Sykes & The Sweet Hereafter's phenomenal debut Reckless Burning. The band (featuring its original 2003 members, playing Reckless Burning in its entirety) and Barsuk join together with other members - past and present - of the label's fantastic roster (including headliners-in-their-own-right Rocky Votolato and Laura Gibson, plus some surprises... ) at Tractor Tavern on November 10th, closing out a four-night anniversary celebration at venues around Seattle.

Born of salt air, coastal mountains, and imbued with tavern smoke, there was no better soundtrack to an afternoon at a bar on Ballard Ave in 2002 than Reckless Burning. Instantly garnering critical acclaim and fans worldwide, it was the first of four full length albums (most recently Marble Son2011) in addition to two EPs released by Jesse Sykes. The most sonically spare of their albums, it offers fans unfamiliar with it a chance to see the band's evolution while retaining the same emotional thread-the dire need to examine the ephemeral human experience. Jesse said, "Phil Wandscher and I have always shared the vision that this band was about personal evolution, which is why it's endured all these years. The music has always sonically mirrored what was going on in our internal worlds, and as life goes on it gets heavier and more complex, and so has the music." The original collective (Anne Marie Ruljancich, Kevin Warner, Bill Herzog) reunites where it began more than a decade ago, for a one-off, sure to be spellbinding performance of their timeless album in its entirety.
