Up-and-coming NYC rapper Jay Mula performed Saturday night to a sold-out crowd at New York's own Gramercy Theatre. The February 3rd event, hosted by Love & Hip-Hop's Snoop, Hot 97's HipHop Mike, and Instagram sensation Mr Commodore, saw notable performances by Loaded Lux, Ron Browz, Jaquae, Grafh, Fat Boy Izzo, Ricky Bats, and more. "We wanted to do this show to give back to the local New York hip-hop scene and enjoy each other's fans," says Mula. "It was important to us that we let Manhattan, and the city in general, know that it's ok to host hip-hop events like this and they don't have to end in violence. We put on for our city."
Officially titled "Jay Mula & Friends," the show brought out 700+ attendees coming together to celebrate and support up-and-coming New York hip-hop artists in the underground and independent scene. Attendees included battle rapper Mysonne, Matt Bond founder of Treble, platinum artist Mr. Cheeks , and more. DJs included DJ Solution, DJ Manny Millz and DJ Fat Fingaz. Mula performed tracks from his debut album Rockaway Ave. including "Gang" and "Phone Line." Rockway Ave is available now on all digital retailers.
Jay Mula, real name Johnny Espinal, was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, and inspired by the lyrics and performance style of Tupac Shakur. Having started in the underground music scene in 2013 Mula's rise to the top has seen him on tracks with some of Hip-Hop's biggest artists including Dave East, Mr. Cheeks, Ron Browz, Uncle Murda, Fred the Godson, & more. His debut album Rockaway Ave. dropped in September 2017 to much fanfare. Mula is currently in the process of working on his follow up, as of yet untitled, project.
