Although influenced by the pop genre, Angelica Allen, also known by the moniker My Midnight Heart, sings to her own beat. Her melodies, undeniably distinct, are a beacon of both darkness and light. Often drawing comparisons to early Mariah Carey, it's no surprise that Angelica was also deeply influenced by the elusive chanteuse. Of the legendary singer she says, "Mariah is where I started musically. Her first two records were really the very first albums I ever listened to. I played them over and over again as a kid. I memorized all the words and every ad lib. I would tape her music from TV and obsess. I wanted to BE Mariah."
Now, Angelica has unveiled her ethereal take on the classic Mariah track "Can't Let Go," giving her all vocally and creatively. Listen to "Can't Let Go" where it premiered with

Having released her debut EP Chest of Hearts in 2013 to critical acclaim, the siren has released two EPs in the past month, Drown and Break. Angelica took full creative control of her recent work, both sonically and aesthetically, creating otherworldly video collages, to bring singles
"Salome" and
"Break" to life.
My
Midnight Heart has shared stages with Solange, Tegan and Sara, Blood Orange and
Nick Waterhouse among others. Those who have been unable to experience the incredible live dynamics can catch her live at the Brooklyn Night Bazaar on 3/13, with
Ex Cops and Heart, and at
Bowery Ballroom on 5/29, opening for Escort (with whom she also sings background vocals!).
