On Monday, May 4, 2015, more than 200 Metro Vancouver elementary and secondary students will perform a free public concert at 10am at Robson Square (800 Robson Street) as part of the 11th annual 'Music Monday'. A national celebration, 'Music Monday' is an opportunity to highlight and recognize the work of dedicated music teachers from Kindergarten to Grade 12. The mass performance will be conducted by Maestro Bramwell Tovey from the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, with award-winning choral conductor Morna Edmundson emceeing the event.
Music students from Burnaby, Vancouver, and Coquitlum will be joined by local choir EnChor and adult musicians including White Spot's Chuck Currie. The event will begin with a mass performance of the 2015 'Music Monday' anthem We Are One written by 16-year-old Connor Ross. The song was selected after a nationwide search for an original song written by a Canadian artist.
Launched in 2005 by The Coalition for Music Education, 'Music Monday' is the world's largest single event dedicated to raising awareness for music education. 'Music Monday' is presented by The Coalition for Music Education in BC Society, in partnership with the national organization The Coalition for Music Education in Canada. 'Music Monday' is sponsored by Tom Lee Music, Long & McQuade, Coastal Jazz & Blues Society, Vancouver Opera and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
