Montalvo Arts Center presents multi-Grammy winning Jazz-Fusion band Yellowjackets in its Carriage House Concert Series. Yellowjackets has recorded 22 albums, received 17 Grammy nominations, and performed countless sold-out tours, enjoying worldwide critical acclaim and commercial success. Noted as "melodically seductive" by All About Jazz, the band's intricate compositions and remarkable improvisations defy labels. Yellowjackets was formed in 1977 when a group of veteran session musicians discovered a strong chemistry and musical affinity while recording Robben Ford's album The Inside Story. After signing with Warner Brothers, the band released its self-titled debut album in 1981, establishing itself as a leading crossover jazz group, garnering public and critical acclaim, and helping define the sound of modern smooth jazz. Along with its commercial success, the band has been recognized with 17 Grammy nominations, and awarded two. Yellowjackets' musical talent and improvisational excellence has attracted some of jazz's top musicians, with its current members including bassist Dane Alderson, saxophonist Bob Mintzer, drummer William Kennedy, and keyboardist Russell Ferrante. After 40 years of producing genre-defining music, Yellowjackets continues to create fresh and unique compositions that cross countless boundaries.
