Morgan James brings her Reckless Abandon national tour to the Jeanne Rimsky Theater on Saturday, April 1, 2017, 8 PM.
That tour name is no April Fools' joke - in her concerts and on her recordings, Morgan James is a virtual freight train of vocal power. She continually bares it all-both emotionally and musically - lending her classically trained voice to a wide range of music, from the mournful rumination of Say The Words to new takes on classics like Aretha's Oh Me, Oh My, the Police's Roxanne and Eric Clapton's Lay Down Sally.
James' first two releases were 2012's celebration of Nina Simone, Morgan James Live From Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola and 2014's Hunter, boasting powerful and personal renditions of Prince's "Call My Name" (reached Top 15 at Urban AC radio and #1 most added) along with Hall & Oates' "She's Gone" and Bruce Springsteen's "Dancing In The Dark". The album features a gradient of soulful styles: from lush tracks, with stacks of voices and horns; modern throwbacks to summertime pop; haunting ballads; empowering farewells.
Fans of Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox will remember Morgan James from the video All About that Bass; James has toured nationally and internationally with PMJ. On her current tour James is backed by her own band and performs a combination of fan favorites and new original music.
James sold out her two most recent shows at Joe's Pub (fall, 2016). This will be her first Long Island appearance and the only one on this tour.
