Milwaukee Youth Symphony Holds Honor Recital, 4/29

Some of the Milwaukee area's brightest young stars take the stage when MYSO presents an Honor Recital featuring the highly talented runner-up and honorable mentions from MYSO's 2012 Senior Symphony Concerto Competition, as well as a very accomplished MYSO string quartet and MYSO's top jazz combo, the Bronzeville Jazz Quintet. The MYSO Honor Recital will take place Sunday, April 29, 2012, at 2 p.m., at Youth Arts Hall, Milwaukee Youth Arts Center, located at 325 W. Walnut Street, Milwaukee.

Performers include the following.

Competition runner-up clarinetist Ana Nelson, of Ripon, performing the von Weber Concertino

Honorable mentions include violinist C. Andrew Dunlap, of Manitowoc, performing Ernest Bloch's, Baal Shem and Nigun, as well as iolinist Sam Femal, of Waukesha, performing two Bach partitas, violinist Anna Belle Hoots, of Mequon, performing the first movement from Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto in D Major. Cellist Kartik Papatla, of Mequon, will be performing the first movement of Dvorák's Cello Concerto in B minor. Violinist Ellen Sonnenberg, of Howard's Grove, performs the first movement of the Sibelius Violin Concerto in D minor. And cellist Elliot Yang, of New Berlin, presents Tchaikovsky's Rococo Variations.

Also performing will be MYSO's premier jazz combo, the Bronzeville Jazz Quintet, comprised of Alec Aldred, trumpet, of Waukesha; Leonard Simpson, alto sax, of Milwaukee; Peter Garofalo, piano, of Wauwatosa; James Kröner, bass, of Wauwatosa; and Tommy Rorabeck, drums, of Wauwatosa. Finally, Quartet Soleil, a very accomplished MYSO Senior Symphony string quartet, comprised of violinist Holly Spangenberg, of Thiensville, violinist Sam Femal, of Waukesha, violist Rachel Mooers, of Delafield, and cellist Elliot Yang, of New Berlin, will perform two movements from Shostakovich's String Quartet No. 1.

Tickets, at $5, will be available at the door.
