Miloš Karadagli, the 29-year-old guitarist celebrated the world over is set to release his sophomore Deutsche Grammophon recording, Pasión, available in the U.S. on July 17.
Pasión features popular Latin selections familiar to many but brought to fresh life with new arrangements for solo guitar and string orchestra. Highlights among these include Gardel’s Por una cabeza (an Argentine classic heard in the hit film Scent of a Woman) and Piazzolla’s nuevo tango masterpieces Libertango and Oblivion, plus the folk standard Quizás, quizás, quizás. The collection’s solo gems include Villa-Lobos’ Prelude No. 1 (a signature selection in most Miloš live concerts) and beautiful tremolo pieces by the Paraguayan “Chopin of the Guitar” Augustín Barrios, as well as the tango that defines the genre, La cumparsita.
Just as Latin American composers from Villa-Lobos to Ponce aimed to bring the music of the street into the concert hall, Pasión unites popular and cultivated traditions all the way from Brazil to Mexico. Further, Miloš says: “I wanted to step into a world with no frames or boundaries, where you can allow yourself to connect with your innermost feelings and musical desires, and communicate them on the most human level. Latin American guitar music is perhaps even more uninhibited than Spanish. With some pieces on the album, I even went a little bit out of my comfort zone, as I wanted to showcase all the different aspects and facets of this culture.”
Miloš was named Gramophone magazine’s “Young Artist of the Year,” he also received its coveted Specialist Classical Chart Award. Miloš’ Deutsche Grammophon debut, Mediterráneo, was one of the best-selling newcomers on the traditional classical charts in major territories around the world – from the U.S., England and France to Australia, Japan and China. His commitment and passion in revitalizing the classical guitar for the masses was well received by critics and audiences alike.
