Millersville University's Department of Music has announced a faculty recital of Dr. Anita Renfroe with guest artist Dr. Sonia Lee, titled UPDATED ANCIENTS. This performance creatively present early keyboard music in a new realization, a different format, or with additional effects. Renfroe explains, "Duo harpsichord recitals are novel; add castanets and the experience is quite unique!" This unique concert is scheduled for Sunday, February 22 at 2:30 pm at the Winter Center located at 60 W. Cottage Ave, Millersville.
Dr. Anita Boyle Renfroe, Professor of Music & Director of Keyboard Studies at Millersville University, earned her degrees in piano performance-the Bachelor of Music from Florida State University, the Master of Music from Memphis State University, and the Doctor of Musical Arts from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary School of Music in Louisville, Kentucky. Dr. Renfroe's key teachers and mentors include Webster Teague, Leonard Mastrogiacomo, Edward Kilenyi, Daniel Fletcher, Carolyn Fruchtman, Maurice Hinson, and Nelita True. Piano and harpsichord performances take Dr. Renfroe throughout the United States and Europe.
Dr. Sonia Lee completed her undergraduate and master's studies at McGill University in Montreal, and holds a D.M.A. in Historical Keyboard Performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she took additional doctoral work in Musicology and Library and Information Science. Her major performance teachers included Charlotte Mattax, Hank Knox, Luc Beauséjour, and Joyce Lindorff, and she has received additional guidance from Kenneth Gilbert. Currently serving as the President of the Historical Keyboard Society of North America, she is an Artist-Scholar in Residence at the La Napoule Art Foundation in Mandelieu, France and an affiliated artist at Irvine Valley College.
Tickets are on sale for $10 and free to MU students with valid ID. Renfroe invites concert goers to get a closer look at the instruments following the recital. Tickets can also be purchased in person at the Ticket Office located in the Student Memorial Center on Millersville's campus, or the Ware Center, located at 42 N. Prince Street, in Lancaster. The Winter Center's doors will open one hour before the show for ticket sales, subject to availability.
