Born in South Africa but raised in Australia, enigmatic artist Guard keeps a distinct air of mystery about him. But 2017 has been a breakthrough year so far. Indeed, in May Vice said of his track "Xylophone" that it, "Drips with sweat and sunshine." That was followed this summer by his dreamy, steamy single "Cables." Now comes the gorgeous, Japanese-inflected "Raincoats," and its haunting accompanying video - which BlackBook premieres here. The song itself exhibits his uncommon but utterly absorbing brand of hypnotic neo-soul. And its visual counterpart is by turns surreal, existential, deeply sensual and absolutely mesmerizing.

"Raincoats represents a yearning for something more than life," he explains. "We put on a facade to hide who we really are and what we really want in life, but we are all just humans biding our time."

Perhaps offering some further insight into his creative thought process are his wildly popular meme pages.
