Tonight, December 6 at 8:00 p.m. two funky forces of nature unite on Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center's stage as guitar giant John Scofield joins the endlessly inventive organ trio Medeski, Martin & Wood for an incendiary evening of greasy grooves. Tickets are $75, $95, $115 and are available online at www.whbpac.org.
Since they first met nearly 17 years ago in New York's downtown scene, Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood's friendship has fostered an escalating degree of musical interplay. Keyboardist John Medeski, bassist Chris Wood, and drummer Billy Martin, are a jamband, embracing soul, bebop, funk, R&B, DJ culture and the avant garde, often at the same time. While guitarist John Scofiled is a masterful rock-oriented improviser with a trademark distortion-tinged tone. But together, the quartet creates a funky fusion that's perfectly captured on their latest album Juice. Their fourth album, Juice explores the improvisation and rhythms from Brazil, the Caribbean, and Latin America all intertwined with an accessible groove-based jazz. With Sco's blues licks and Medeski's funky riffs over Martin and Wood's bugaloo bounce, you won't be able to keep completely still while listening to them jam.
