Matt and Kim drummer Kim Schifino fell during the band's high energy performance at Maha Music Festival in Omaha last weekend. Schifino played through the pain to finish their set before she was carried off the stage leaving fans to wonder about the band's future and their upcoming Grand 10 Year Celebration Tour. Matt and Kim announced via social media that Schifino has a torn ACL, but they also announced that they WILL TOUR AS PLANNED.
Via socials, Matt posted, "Kim's the most badass person I know and a true performer. And in the saying "the show must go on", she has gone directly into physical therapy and her doctor says with intensive work she will be ready to go for the GRAND anniversary tour this fall. As incredibly sad as she is about this injury, she was ever more sad at the prospect of missing this tour so we are proud to say it will happen."
Of the album and tour, Matt says, "In celebration of its 10 year anniversary, we're going on a U.S. tour playing our album GRAND in its entirety (as well as a bunch of other songs)! This album totally changed me and Kim's lives, but some of the songs off GRAND we've never even played live before. We're really excited we get to do this trip and we've never done anything like it. It's gonna be special."
What was said of them back then - "Matt Johnson and Kim Schifino have established a hard-won reputation as a raucous live juggernaut" (NPR) - holds true today as the tour-loving Brooklyn duo continue to incite non-stop dance parties at every venue they play. And that's just how they intend to celebrate with fans across the U.S. this Fall.
Matt and Kim's Grand 10 Year Celebration Tour kicks off October 17 and fittingly ends with two NY shows in November. Tickets are on sale atmattandkim.com.
GRAND includes the singles "Daylight" which has reached RIAA certified platinum status and "Lessons Learned" which earned the band an MTV Video Music Award for Breakthrough Video, an MTV Woodie Award for Best Video and named SPIN's #1 Video of the Year and fan favorite "Good Ol' Fashion Nightmare".
