Matt Wertz, who has found his sound and his home in Nashville for over a decade, prepares to tackle pop music from a new angle for the summer. Having spent over a decade in Music City creating soulful pop on his own terms, Wertz forced himself out of his adopted hometown and took to Los Angeles. Thousands of miles from home and fueled by infectious, 90's-inspired beats, Gun Shy came to life. With left-field love songs that find new tones through old-school influences, the prolific songwriter's latest LP brings together modern pop and synthesized R&B to satisfy thirsty fans old and new just in time for summer on May 20th.

Coming to the realization that he had been making records by similar methods in the same geographic area, Wertz decided to travel far outside his comfort zone, both physically and aesthetically. The self-made songwriter invites his listeners to join him in this leap, as the album urges them to continue to journey into uncertain situations armed with bold courage and backed by massive hooks and driving beats. Slow-jam "Slow Motion" focuses on what's important with an addictive groove, while "Unexpected Love" soars high on its own impossibly infectious melody.

Meanwhile, "Smoke" sizzles with R&B inspired vocals and sky-high synth beats. The track is available now on iTunes and Spotify.

For nearly 15 years, Matt Wertz has been making his way through commercial success and touring milestones while remaining true to his roots as an independent artist. Having toured over the years and across the country with artists including Jason Mraz, Maroon 5,Parachute and Gavin DeGraw, Wertz always returned to Nashville, the city has been become both his muse and his hometown. A longtime member of Nashville's songwriting community, Wertz teamed with A-list pop writers from the West Coast to bring Gun Shy to life, including LA's Ian Keaggy (Hot Chelle Rae, Cody Simpson), Ben Romans (Carly Rae Jepson) and Seth Jones (Greg Holden, Tyler Bryant). Wertz is proud to push the envelope with sky-high songs whose driving beats and splashing synths create a brand new landscape.
