Telemundo announced today that Colombian multi-genre singer and social media powerhouse Maluma will be the recipient of the Extraordinary Evolution Award at the upcoming "Latin American Music Awards" (Latin AMAs). The Extraordinary Evolution Award is a special award presented to a young performer who has demonstrated change and accelerated growth as an artist, to reach the pinnacle of success in a short period of time. Maluma has also confirmed his participation as a performer at the Latin AMAs, which will broadcast live from the prestigious Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California, on Thursday October 25, 2018 at 8pm/7c, preceded by the one-hour carpet pre-show "La Alfombra de Latin AMAs" at 7pm/6c. The show will also air simultaneously on Spanish-language entertainment cable network, Universo.
Hailed by Rolling Stone as "Latin pop's next crossover star," Maluma is currently conquering the world with his F.A.M.E. tour. Delving into Latin pop, urban and trap, the versatile showman has quickly risen to Latin music stardom status. The Colombian heartthrob has charted 25 songs on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart. His featuring on Shakira's "Chantaje" (2016) spent 11 non-consecutive weeks atop the chart. His third collaboration with Shakira, "Clandestino" currently ranks in the top 10.
Since 2015, starting at 21 years of age, Maluma has placed 24 songs on the Billboard Latin Airplay chart, nine of which went No. 1: "Borro Cassette" (2015), "El Perdedor" featuring Yandel (2016), "Sin Contrato" that featured a version with Fifth Harmony and another with Don Omar & Wisin (2017), "Vente Pa' Ca" by Ricky Martin featuring Maluma (2016), Shakira's "Chantaje" featuring Maluma (2016), "Felices los 4" (2017), "Corazón" with Nego do Borel (2018), "El Préstamo" (2018, leading for 2 weeks), and "El Clavo" by Prince Royce featuring Maluma (Sept. 1, 2018). His sophomore album Pretty Boy Dirty Boy debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart in 2015, and his latest album F.A.M.E. debuted at No. 1 on June of this year and currently stands at No. 5 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart. The three-hour live telecast presentation of the 2018 Latin AMA's will feature performances by artists that are relevant to Latinos, regardless of language. Hip hop star Cardi B, regional Mexican singer and songwriter Christian Nodal, international rapper Pitbull, popular BOY BAND CNCO, renowned rapper and actor Ludacris, bachata singer and songwriter Prince Royce, singer, songwriter and actress Becky G, regional Mexican band from Sinaloa, Banda MS de Sergio Lizarraga, pop singer Leslie Grace, multi-platinum rapper Flo Rida, Argentinian singer Tini, and Spanish pop singer Alvaro Soler compose the initial line-up of stars to perform at this year's event.
