Make Music New York Returns 6/21

On June 21st, New York City kicks off the summer season with a musical celebration spanning all five boroughs. Open to all ages, amateurs or professional, young or old, Make Music New York has become the largest musical phenomenon to grace the city.

MMNY takes place simultaneously with Make Music Day across the Unites States and Fete de la Musique around the world, making it a global celebration. Performing on streets, sidewalks, stoops, plazas, cemeteries, parks and gardens - MMNY is open to anyone who wants to take part, and enjoyed by everyone who wants to attend. There is something for everyone ranging from classical to folk, hip-hop to opera, and Latin jazz to punk rock.

Make Music New York highlights include:

• Clavinova Piano Bar: In celebration of the 100th birthday of Frank Sinatra, a roving Sinatra karaoke piano bar will make designated stops at city landmarks and locations highlighting his illustrious career as an entertainer.
• Exquisite Corpses: A new series that will bring life to New York's burial grounds (Grant's Tomb, NYC Marble Cemetery, St. Mark's Church-In-The-Bowery, Trinity Church Cemetery, and Madison Square Park) with chains of improvised musical conversations.
• Pop Up Musicals: A roving musical theater group performs excerpts from NYC-based musicals.
• Sousapalooza: 200 wind band musicians and members of the West Point Band will perform classic marches in Bryant Park.
• Concerto for Buildings: Eight buildings in SoHo that have hollow, cast-iron facades that resonate when struck, will be shut down as noted composers write short pieces for buildings that will be performed by Mantra Youth Percussion and Face The Music.
• Porch Stomp: Celebration of bluegrass, old-time, traditional folk and roots music, on the historic porches of Governors Island.
• Punk Island: Returning with over 90 punk bands from as far away as the Philippines to as near as the East Village, on a Staten Island pier.
• Mass Appeal: Bringing together massed groups of the same instrument for participatory, inclusive performances. Instruments will include cellos, guitars, harmonicas, synthesizers, ukuleles, and even Klezmer violins.
