National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $80 million in grants as part of the NEA's second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2018. Included in this announcement is an Art Works grant of $40,000 to the Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts, to support an increase in interactive activities that engage Detroit audiences with performers from each of Music Hall's four programmatic Series: Family Theatre, which engages children and families with staged versions of classic stories; World Cultures, which represents and reaches out to our region's culturally diverse population; Contemporary Dance, which connects our region with new work from the forefront of the field; and Music -- which speaks for itself. These series reflect Music Hall's unusually broad spectrum of audiences, including Metro Detroit's richly diverse cultural groups and with a particular focus on access for students and families from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The Art Works category is the NEA's largest funding category and supports projects that focus on the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence, public engagement with diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts, and/or the strengthening of communities through the arts.

Vince Paul, President and Artistic Director of the Music Hall, said "As the world becomes ever more fascinated with Detroit, Music Hall's work is recognized internationally for its leadership in the City's developing cultural scene. We are very happy that the NEA has once again joined our list of supporters, affirming our work and our plans for growth. It's an honor to be included among NEA grantees, and we look forward to a great working relationship with the Agency."

"The variety and quality of these projects speaks to the wealth of creativity and diversity in our country," said NEA Chairman Jane Chu. "Through the work of organizations such the Music Hall in Detroit, NEA funding invests in local communities, helping people celebrate the arts wherever they are."
