Prolific singer-songwriter Michael Sackler-Berner, aka MSB, has spent the last eight years combing through the life moments that have most shaped his songwriting. It's led him to what is sure to be remembered as a career-defining moment... the resulting collection of stories, like the best songwriting, reveals something within each of our own lives. Today, MSB releases Short Stories via CEN/The Orchard - enjoy via your favorite DSP. MSB will celebrate the album release at Joe's Pub in NYC on Monday, March 4.
"It's an album of fully realized Short Stories," he reiterates by way of the title. "The goal was to let each song lean all the way into whatever style suited it best production wise. But to me...it just sounds like me."
Having grown up on everything from B.B. King to Sinatra to '90s hip-hop, the genre-bending Short Stories ranges from Leonard Cohen-esque lament on doomed romance, to hip scat jazz as if imagined by Elvis Costello, and fuzzed-out psych-punk complete with retro Farfisa organ. The intriguingly conceptual new album incisively captures the evolution of MSB's craft, and is destined to become the record that most viscerally and definitively defines his talent as an artist and songwriter going forward.
Ahead of the LP, MSB released a heartfelt 2D animation video for "A Thousand Times" which premiered via Billboard, and shared the stunning video "Sparkling Eyes".
