(Mike Baggetta, guitar; Jason Rigby, tenor saxophone; Eivind Opsvik, bass; George Schuller, drums)

Seeking to reinterpret the state of the American Song through a 21st century filter, The Mike Baggetta Quartet performs Baggetta's award-winning original pieces with an intense focus on melody, group interaction and fearless improvisation. This ensemble features saxophonist Jason Rigby, bassist Eivind Opsvik and drummer George Schuller. Small Spaces, the debut recording from the Mike Baggetta Quartet, is out now on Fresh Sound New Talent records.
Join the Mike Baggetta Quartet as they prepare for their 2nd recording to be released on Fresh Sound New Talent records.

"Mike is one of the best young improvisors on the NY scene!" Vic Juris, Jazz Guitarist

"This is a superb band...outstanding, and the performances are totally compelling." -Andy Hamilton, Jazz Journal (UK)

"Blessed with a refined approach and solid technique...Mike Baggetta has the potential to break the mold of post-John Scofield plectrists." Michael G. Nastos, All Music Guide

"Guitarist/composer Baggetta is one of those subtle players. He does not overwhelm you with volume or seek to impress with fleet-fingered improvisations. Instead, each piece he performs creates new worlds of possibilities...utilizing approaches from many different genres but never sounding derivative of any one person or school." Richard Kamins, The Hartford Courant

"...his melodic sense is truly beautiful." Tom Chandler, Jazzreview.com

6:00PM VINCE BELL
(Paul Frazier; Dave Solider)

Legendary Texas Songwriter VINCE BELL: His songs have been performed and recorded by such diverse talents as Little Feat, Lyle Lovett and Nanci Griffith, and he has had a ballet set to his work. He has released five critically acclaimed CDs, and is the author of an autobiography, One Man's Music: The Life and Times of Texas Songwriter Vince Bell, chronicling his amazing comeback after a devastating car accident in 1982. Referring to Bell's fellow Texas songwriters (Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Lyle Lovett and herself) Nanci Griffith said, 'From all of us who were beating the paths around Texas in the 70s, I always felt Vince was the best of us.'
'Vince is a poet,' said the late Townes Van Zandt. He is one of those rare artists who transcend category: its a little rock 'n' roll, a little folk, a little country, some blues and jazz, some singer-songwriter. What kind of music? Vince Bell music.'

9:00PM & 10:30PM Michael Adkins QUINTET
(Michael Adkins, tenor saxophone; Russ Lossing, piano; Todd Neufeld, guitar; John Hébert, bass; Billy Mintz, drums)

Michael Adkins returns to Cornelia Street this October, joined by band members well known to New York's modern jazz scene. This group's work together is characterized by a sense of anticipation - each artist explores ideas developed by the entire quintet, with the saxophonist both modulating and amplifying refrains, taking them unexpectedly in new directions, or returning them to an understated simplicity. Russ Lossing's magnificent sense of play and eloquence find a particularly strong context in the band's interactions, as do the discerning vitality and sensitivity of Billy Mintz on drums, and John Hébert's dynamic alteration of working distinctions between inventiveness and groove. The young guitarist Todd Neufeld brings a fresh integrity to the music as well, playing to the moment by turns with intelligent clarity or introspection among veterans. Adkins' sound works as both provocateur and coherence, holding the music to its exploratory possibilities, without letting its lyrical potential be lost. An evening of improvisation at its keenest edge for those for whom the music matters most.
"Here is a magnificent saxophonist." Serge Baudot, JAZZHOT

"Adkins deep and penetrating tenor lines provide a near flawless vehicle for group-centric improvisation." Glenn Astarita, JAZZ REVIEW

"An important new voice has arrived." Chris May, ALLABOUTJAZZ
