London based Dubliner Louis Brennan has released his latest single, 'Airport Hotel', along with the live video for 'The Culture Of Resistance', filmed at The Harrison. Both tracks are taken from his debut album Dead Capital, to be released on February 28th. Airport Hotel' is a beautifully poignant ballad around a passionate encounter, and as always, is imbued with the allegory and sensitive metaphor that characterise his writing. His brooding baritone juxtaposes the soft folk guitar and jarring strings, before opening up into an impassioned second chorus, full of aching, strained emotion.
The video for 'The Culture Of Resistance' sees Louis performing the track live at The Harrison, an intimate performance with only Louis backed by a haunting pedal steel guitarist. Playing in a dimly lit and crowded room, the video accentuates the emotion and subtle nuance ever-present in Brennan's writing, with the warm lo-fi quality of the video adding to its atmospherics.
Brennan's sound calls to mind Father John Misty, Conor Oberst,
John Grant and Johnny Cash with the lyrical command of troubadours like
Leonard Cohen and Nick Cave.
Creating his own brand of thinking man's folk, Louis' music is deep and rich in emotion, marking him out as an artist of remarkable talent and immeasurable depth of mind. His lyrics are also razor-sharp, bittersweet and often full of wry humour.
Louis will be playing a Dead Capital album launch show at the
Sebright Arms in Hackney on 28th February. Tickets are available
