London-based composer and violinist Layale Chaker has already enjoyed an international career, despite her young age, sharing aspects of her Lebanese heritage with others through performances of her own works at prestigious venues including Wigmore Hall and the Southbank Centre in London.
As a member of Daniel Barenboim's West-Eastern Divan orchestra, she performs around the year in concert halls such as the Royal Albert Hall, Teatro Colon, Mozarteum Salzburg, Philharmonie de Paris, Salzburg Festspiele and der Philharmonie Berlin among others.
In summer 2018, Layale will return to New York to record her upcoming album 'Inner Rhyme'. An album pre-release concert at National Sawdust on June 28 will unveil distinct musical threads mapped through the rhythmical cycles of the twelve classical Arabic poetic meters. Listeners will feel the fluidity of oral and free forms, the abstraction of language into the physical contour of verses, and the percussive potential of words. Beyond expression, the composition process tries to capture the shape and essence of epic testimonials on life, death, war and love that make the heart of this beautiful poetry.
Layale will be joined onstage by her ensemble, Sarafand, made up of cellist Jake Charkey, pianist Phillip Golub, bassist Nick Dunston, and percussionist Adam Maalouf.
Tickets are priced $29.00 + booking fee and can be purchased through the National Sawdust website: https://nationalsawdust.org/event/kinan-azmeh-presents-layale-chaker/
