LISTEN: U2 Releases New Single, 'You're The Best Thing About Me'

"You're The Best Thing About Me," the first single from U2's highly anticipated 14th studio album, Songs of Experience, is released today. Accompanied by exclusive art, the new single features a sleeve image of The Edge's daughter Sian Evans, photographed by Anton Corbijn. To see the band's first-ever performance of "You're The Best Thing About Me," tune in tomorrow evening to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Songs Of Experience is the companion release to 2014's Songs Of Innocence, the two titles drawing inspiration from a collection of poems, 'Songs of Innocence and Experience', by the 18th century English mystic and poet William Blake. While Songs of Innocence charted the band's earliest influences and experiences in the late 1970s and early 80s, the new album is a collection of songs in the form of intimate letters to places and people close to the Bono's heart; family, friends, fans, himself.

In an excerpt from an interview with Jon Pareles of The New York Times, "You're putting out a song about your girlfriend when the world is on fire?," Bono asked, anticipating one reaction. "Yes. Joy is an act of defiance."

"U2 refuses to rush its albums, " says Jon Pareles of the New York Times. "Ever more aware of its singular status as a rock band that has started its fifth decade with its original lineup - and is still selling out arenas and stadiums - the group constantly weighs both its past and its determination to move ahead. The release of "You're The Best Thing About Me" follows last week's surprise gift to fans of "The Blackout" performance video, another track from the upcoming album that New York Magazine has declared "electrifying."
