In anticipation of the inaugural Krewe du Kanaval taking place Tuesday, February 6, 2018 in New Orleans, the Preservation Hall Horns, RAM and Win Butler and Regine Chassagne of Arcade Fire have collaborated on "Ann Ale! (Let's Go!)," a Krewe du Kanaval theme, released today at www.kanaval.org.
"Ann Ale! (Let's Go!)," recorded in New
Orleans last week, is an embodiment of the spirit of Krewe du Kanaval: a new
Mardi Gras Krewe, mobile music event and celebration of Haiti and the diaspora of cultures that have enriched New Orleans' identity and arts for hundreds of years.
The music of "Ann Ale! (Let's Go!)" was written by Win Butler and Regine Chassagne, with lyrics by Win Butler, Regine Chassagne, and Richard Morse. The song was produced by Win Butler, Regine Chassagne, and Eric Heigle, and mixed by Craig Silvey with Win Butler and Eric Heigle.
The inaugural Krewe du Kanaval will run from 12 noon through to the late evening, consisting of a parade/procession through the
French Quarter and Treme, a free afternoon festival in Armstrong Park and a ticketed Kanaval Ball at the iconic club One Eyed Jacks. Much like the theme song, the Krewe itself is a joint effort between Preservation Hall, Win Butler and Regine Chassagne of
Arcade Fire and Haitian friends. It aims to be a welcome and necessary annual addition to New Orleans'
Mardi Gras traditions and will raise funds to benefit the Preservation Hall Foundation and KANPE - two not-for-profit organizations which serve important unmet social and cultural needs in New
Orleans and Haiti.
Confirmed talent includes members of
Arcade Fire including singers Win Butler and Regine Chassagne, the world famous Preservation Hall Jazz Band, DJ Nickodemus, DJ Cosmo Gonik,
Paul Beaubrun and special guests from Haiti including RAM.
