"A sparkling talent has arrived on the jazz scene by way of a stunning singer/songwriter/actress by the name of Kat Gang. I don't mean the garden variety American Idol type that pervades our musical landscape these days, but a real jazz singer who understands the jazz vocabulary and the art of song." - Nora McCarthy, Jazz Inside Magazine - Read the complete rave review in JazzInsideMagazine.com (hard copies are available at the entrance to Iridium and other jazz locations throughout the city).
"Kat Gang is a young lady who takes familiar songs on jazzy excursions that are exciting and coherent....a terrific listening experience. The subtle voice of Kat Gang is one that she employs to great effect, whether singing lyrics or scatting, something that she does well which is an exception to the tedium that most singers bring to that facet of jazz singing....consistently adventurous....a lively and highly listenable experience." - Joe Lang, Jersey Jazz, July/August 2011
"Kat has a voIce That draws you into her magical world. I think she's absolutely marvelous!"- Liane Carroll, Best Female Vocalist, BBC Jazz Awards
"Kat reminds me of Anita O'Day - the kind of vocalist who has her eyes open and yet remains exquisitely relaxed in her lyric and the way in which she sings. She does these amazing things, while smiling, showing off her amazing range while looking like she is hardly working at all." - Helga Davis, WNYC
"I cannot tell you how impressed I am with her singing, she is very, very talented!"- Sheila Jordan, Jazz Singer
With looks as beautiful as her voice, Kat Gang brings her unique vocal style described as a "musical breath of fresh air" to a collaboration with Nate Mayland, a trombone player and composer. Nate has spent the last eleven years working as a trombonist and low brass freelancer, sharing stages with Bernadette Peters, Josh Grobin, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, the Chico O'Farrill Jazz Orchestra, Johnny Mathis, and belong to the orchestra of Lincoln Center's presentation of South Pacific.
The hip quartet consists of Nate Mayland, trombone; Barry Levitt, keys; Ray Marchica, drums; and Dick Scarpula, bass.
The songs are originals and twists on standards - the sound is jazz meets bossa nova meets folk meets pop!
