On any given Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night, the streets, restaurants, and bars of downtown Stamford are buzzing with activity. The Palace will be a regular part of that buzz starting September 27th when they launch a new series called "Showcase 61" - a series of performances in the Upper Lobby featuring artists from in and around Fairfield County. The first artist to perform as part of this new series is Norwalk singer/songwriter Karen Zimmer. Admission is free for Palace Theatre Members and just $5 for the general public. Tickets may be purchased online at www.SCAlive.org.
The September 27th event will feature a relaxed atmosphere, food from a few of the fantastic restaurants in downtown Stamford, Oktoberfest beers, wine, and the live music of Karen Zimmer. Ms. Zimmer blends elements of folk, blues and country with a hint of pop to create her unique sound. Growing up with a love of music, she spent most of her younger years studying jazz and playing the clarinet and some piano. When she was 25 years old, she bought a guitar on a whim and fell in love. She is currently working on an album at the Factory Underground Studios in Norwalk.
"We have a wealth of talented people living and working in the area," said Executive Director Michael E. Moran, Jr. "We wanted to offer the residents of downtown and beyond a unique evening. You will see artists with a local flavor, and our September 27th event will feature a few Oktoberfest beers, in addition to our regular offerings of wine and soda."
