Kali Uchis today unveils a new song, "After The Storm" featuring longtime friend and collaborator Tyler, The Creator and funk legend Bootsy Collins and produced by BADBADNOTGOOD-listen here and stream here. The track is the latest from her forthcoming debut album, set for release this spring on Interscope Records/Virgin EMI Records.
"We can find solace in the fact that we have to go through the bad stuff to truly get to the good," says Uchis of the track. "Just because you're losing at the moment doesn't mean you've lost yet. The storm may be scary now but it's how your flowers bloom later, and paradise is just beyond the rainbow."
Uchis and Collins originally connected on Twitter after Uchis mentioned him as a dream collaborator in an interview and Collins got in touch to return the admiration. Soon after, she traveled to his Ohio studio where they spent several days recording. "After The Storm" is the latest in a long line of collaborations between
Tyler, The Creator and Uchis, the two began working together after Uchis' first-ever release, Drunken Babble, caught Tyler's attention. Kali also features on Tyler's critically acclaimed new album Flower Boy.
Uchis is nominated for a 2017 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance for her collaboration with Daniel Caesar, "Get You," and was nominated for a Latin Grammy for Record of the Year for her song with Juanes, "El Ratico."
Following her first-ever, sold out headline tour last fall, Uchis is currently touring North America with
Lana Del Rey with dates in Newark, Philadelphia, Nashville, Austin and beyond. Uchis will play additional headline dates in Chicago, Sacramento and Oakland this spring, as well as this year's Coachella.
"After The Storm" follows singles "Nuestro Planeta" featuring Reykon-watch the Medellin, Colombia-shot video here-and "Tyrant" featuring Jorja Smith, which NPR calls "glittery and danceable, but brutal in its honesty."
Raised between Virginia and her parents' native Colombia, Kali Uchis' first studio project, Por Vida, was released in 2015 to acclaim from the likes of The New York Times, Rolling Stone, NPR, Pitchfork and The FADER, whose cover she graced this year. Uchis has collaborated and shared stages with Gorillaz, Diplo, Major Lazer, Tyler The Creator, Snoop Dogg, Kaytranada, Leon Bridges and more.
