Emerging Nashville recording artist Kaitlyn Baker will open for multi-award-winning singer/songwriter Travis Tritt for a second time, when Tritt performs at the University of Virginia's David J. Prior Convocation Center in Wise, Virginia, tonight, September 28. Also performing will be Matt Mason, winner of the television program "CMT's Next Superstar" in 2011.
Baker first shared the stage with Tritt in Albany, Georgia, in July. She admits to being more excited about the upcoming concert, because it is taking place near her hometown of Pound, Virginia.
"Travis Tritt is one of my favorite singers, so it's a real honor to be invited to open for him a second time," said Baker. "I know a lot of my friends are coming. This is going to be a special evening."
Baker has been performing professionally since she was 8 years old, and has previously opened for other popular artists. She is signed to Silvercreek Records, and will soon release an album through Sony/RED.
"We've been putting the finishing touches on the album. I can't wait for people to hear it," Baker said. "Most of the songs were inspired by my personal experiences, growing up in Pound. I'll be performing some of them at UVA."
One of Baker's songs, "Burn," which is being played on a growing number of radio stations, is loosely based on an experience her grandmother had as a young woman. Another song, "Coal Train," is a tribute to the coal miners in Baker's hometown.
