KOOP Radio 91.7 FM will celebrate 23 years of community radio with a Rock and Soul Birthday Review at The Spider House Ballroom, 2908 Fruth St., on Saturday, December 9 at 7:30 p.m. Every day, KOOP Radio brings you great programming of all types, and as part of Austin pop culture history, KOOP Radio is celebrating its 23rd birthday with our annual benefit, a concert celebrating independent listener-supported radio.
Fresh from playing the Austin City Limits Festival this year, Tomar and the FCs, will kick of the birthday celebrations with their high energy soulful sound with a Sam Cooke spirit and a James Brown passion. Closing out the evening in pure KOOP eclectic fashion is the one and only Bubble Puppy. This legendary Texas band made waves with their psychedelic rock hit "Hot Smoke and Sassafras" caught the attention of George Harrison, who wanted to get it out on the Beatles' Apple label, rocking its way into music history.
Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and Music begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 advance and at the door. For tickets and more information, go to www.spiderhouse.com or www.koop.org. Proceeds from the event will benefit KOOP. Your ticket will support keeping independent radio in Austin, Texas alive and well.
