Elektra recording group Kitten has announced the release of their much-anticipated new EP. "LIKE A STRANGER" arrives on the iTunes Store and at all leading digital providers on August 27th, and is available for pre-order now http://smarturl.it/LikeAStranger.
The six-track EP (see below track listing) will be preceded by the title track, "Like A Stranger" [http://youtu.be/hJo6UanlblE], described by SPIN as "... a dark but glitzy union of post-punk melodrama and New Wave synth symphonics" and noting the song's "... strobing electronics, smoldering vocals, and a breathy spoken-word snippet that recalls Madonna at her finest." "LIKE A STRANGER" paves the way for Kitten's debut album, set to arrive next year.
The Los Angeles-based band will herald "LIKE A STRANGER" with an array of live dates. Following last week's sold out show at the world famous Troubadour, Kitten will hit the road as special guests on IAMSOUND recording artist Charli XCX's upcoming North American headline tour (see below itinerary). The dates get underway August 30th at Vancouver's Venue Nightclub and then continue through late September. Further dates will be announced soon for up-to-the-minute tour and ticket information, please see www.kittentheband.com/tour.
Fronted by the extraordinary Chloe Chaidez, Kitten has drawn ecstatic praise for their inspired rejuvenation of classic post punk and New Wave pop. "While most hyper-young artists are working at the bleeding edges of dance music, Kitten's rich and atmospheric rock is surprisingly ageless," applauded the Los Angeles Times in a recent live review. "The real draw is Chaidez, as sure a shot to be a rock star as L.A. has produced recently. Onstage she's a dervish, flailing and writhing and bashing her bassist about the chest with a tambourine. Those antics belie her age, but her voice eclipses it a huge instrument that can veer from feral yelp to ethereal falsetto." Furthermore, NYLON raved that Kitten are "audibly grounded in two generations' worth of music history, with heavy synths, rushing noise guitar, and a singer's voice that recalls the screech of Karen O and breathy soul of Chan Marshall."
Kitten has quickly made a name for themselves as one of today's most dynamic and imaginative new rock bands, joining the hard edge of late 70s post punk and the sweeping ambience of 90s shoegaze with indiepop's emotional delicacy to create a distinctive sound all their own. Formed in 2010, the band self-released their debut EP "SUNDAY SCHOOL" that same year. A second EP the group's stunning, major label debut "CUT IT OUT" came out in 2012. The irresistible melodies, incessant hooks, and Chaidez's provocative lyricism on tracks like "Cut It Out" and "G#", earned Kitten high-profile radio support from Sirius XM's influential "Alt Nation" channel and other Alternative rock stations around the country.
NBC's "Last Call with Carson Daly" has also proven to be an early champion of the band, profiling Chaidez during their annual coverage of handpicked, about-to-break artists at 2013 South by Southwest Music & Media Conference. Past artists profiled by the show include critically acclaimed rapper Kendrick Lamar and Elektra labelmate Ed Sheeran, among others. The nationally televised late night show featured the band as their musical guest in a subsequent episode, airing a blistering performance from the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles that prompted Daly to proclaim Chaidez, "the new leading lady of rock." In the past year, the band has shared stages with acclaimed artists including No Doubt, Garbage, The Joy Formidable, and Paramore.
