Power-pop-inspired-rock band KITTEN shares their double-single Secrets today. The release features two new tracks, "Secrets" and "Mercury," and was produced by David Stagno and Parker Silzer IV. FADER premiered the double-single calling it, "a thunderous, Pat Benatar-level stomper," while PAPER called "Mercury" a "euphoric '80s pop vibes, floods of bright synths and boom-clap bopping beat." Both of these powerfully introspective songs are available today on all digital service providers.
"'Secrets' and 'Mercury' originate from our earliest sessions together, but it took a while to bring them to life. 'Secrets' felt ambitious at first, but by embracing the melodrama we were able to see it through. Everything fell into place for 'Mercury' when I refocused the lyrics on my parents' divorce and just let it be really personal. We love music that makes you want to dance and cry all at once. Hopefully these songs will connect with people in that way," says singer Chloe Chaidez.
Secrets follows the release of the band's EP Pink Champagne, which featured "Strange Embrace," "Pink Champagne" andtheircritically-acclaimed single "I Did It!""I Did It!" has garnered significant press coverage from many outlets such as Stereogum who called the song "a glistening and infectious slice of retro-pop...with a new urgency underpinning it all," FADER, PAPER, i-D, MTV, Nylon and Idolator stamped the track "their best single to date." The band will be performing in Brooklyn on September 13th, at Albany's WEQX Pearlpalooza on September 15th, and across the U.S. opening for Blue October this fall. These shows will include performances of "I Did It!," songs from the Pink Champagne EP and Secrets single, and fan favorite covers.
The band has become renowned for its fierce live shows. At this year's SXSW, Rolling Stone called KITTEN "a sharp band in its own right, playing with Eighties tropes in a fashion that dodges retro fetishism," and Yahoo! called their performance "strident" and "soaring." KITTEN is also featured on Dirty Heads' single "Visions," which is currently top 30 at Alternative Radio.
Energized by power pop propulsion, Britpop runway-readiness, sugary sweet hooks, and a whole lot of sexy swagger, KITTEN has strut into new territory yet again on their latest releases for RED MUSIC. If Pulp and Roxy Music joined forces to write a score for the movie Blow, it might sound something like the New York quartet. Fronted by Chloe Chaidez, the band have magnetically attracted a diehard fan base since the release of 2014's self-titled Kitten. Not only did the record bow at #9 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart, but it also yielded the hit "Cut It Out." While touring with everyone from No Doubt and Paramore to Charli XCX and Garbage, the group consistently earned the praise of Noisey, Interview, V Magazine, FADER, Time and more. Their standout 2016 EP, Heaven or Somewhere in Between, landed on Rolling Stone's coveted year-end "20 Best Pop Albums of 2016." Throughout 2017, the musicians quietly assembled what would become their 2018 project in Brooklyn. Self-producing for the first time, they unlocked a new stylistic spectrum, tempering synths and guitars with personal, powerful, and provocative lyrics. Their debut EP Pink Champagne has properly kicked off this next chapter with teeth and claws out.
